The 4th Mike Leonard memorial Endurance Event is to be held on 27th December 1999. As in previous years it will be both an off and on-road event. Mike was an "off-roader" purely because Saloon racing was in its very infancy.
For those who did not know Mike he was a young man who had used racing R/C cars as a means of competing on equal terms with more able bodied young men. He overcame his muscular dystrophy to a remarkable extent. When he stood on the rostrum he was as good as anyone, and much better than most. When he died he was just a few days away from competing in his first national event. In our sport he found an outlet for his abilities and was endeavouring to make it his business with cell matching.
The previous Memorial Endurance events have raised over £2000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Research Fund and again all monies raised will be presented to Mike's dad Tony on the day.
RULES
| - The format for the event will be ten teams competing for 3 sessions, each 90minutes long with 30min breaks between them. There will be 5 teams of off-road and 5 teams of on-road. I will take all the entries and try and make teams that are evenly balanced. If you want to be teamed with a friend then let me know and I will try and oblige. It will depend on numbers and crystals available.
- Each team is given 1 transponder and the simple aim is to record as many laps overall as possible. The winners will be the ones with the highest aggregate score for each track.
- Each team will nominate a Captain and a running order. Other than in the event of car, or driver, breakdown, the teams must keep to that order. However the length of each driver's stint depends upon the Captain, so these is scope for strategy.
- EACH TEAM WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR MARSHALLING THEIR OWN CARS ONLY. ANY CAR CRASHING NEAR ANOTHER TEAM'S MARSHAL SHOULD BE TURNED OVER TO WAIT FOR MARSHALLING.
