We have finally got confirmation that both the 2WD and 4WD off road regionals can be held over the weekend of 16th/17th June at Preston Park. We have managed to get camping approved as well as caravans. If any TRCC member wants to help with the setting up then please contact Gary Waller or  Jim Shanley.

The Mike Leonard Endurance race was run on Sunday 7th. We had 6 teams of off road cars, no on-road (surprisingly) and crystal sorts were a lot easier than previous years. The 6 hour race started at 10.30 and it soon became clear that there were 3 races in one. The team from York and Team Sakapu.com from Teesside started to make some headway from Team Rubber Chicken Club (TRCC) and Team Vintage and from Team Anything and Chi Chi Men.
All teams seemed to produce a mix of lap times and the change-over times were critical.

The final results were::-

So everyone had something to race against and I felt that overall the day was a success. But the aim was to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Research Fund and I will post a final figure here asap. Anyone  who would like to contribute can send a cheque to me at 1, Albany Road, Marton, Middlesbrough TS7 8JN or see me at the club.

The Winter Series dates are set. There was much discussion as to a snappy title for the series, so we decided to call it

the 2006 / 7 Winter Championship (snazzy...yes!)

The championship will be the best 6 of 8 rounds.

First meeting is on 2nd December. See the calendar for the others.

Doors open 4.30. Racing starts 6.00

28th October 2006

Once again the club has been cruelly reminded of the terrible effects of  Muscular Dystrophy and its associated diseases. Michael Benson, who had been a regular at our Wednesday practise evenings since the last Mike Leonard meeting, died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday 26th August. Michael suffered from the genetic disorder, "spinal muscular atrophy" and had been confined to his wheelchair since he was two.

Although I do not regularly go down on a Wednesday, whenever I did, Michael was almost certain to be at the side of the track with his transmitter in his lap. As Mike before him, he seemed to delight in the fact that he could make his car go round the track, just the same as his more able bodied friends.

I am sure that all TRCC members will join me in sending our condolences to his mum Ruth and all his family and friends.

The next Mike Leonard endurance event in aid of the Muscular Dystrophy Society will be held on 7th January 2007.

It has again been decided to have the team make-up as last year.
We will accept entries for teams of 4 drivers, either on-road or off-road (not mixed) and they will be supplemented by 2 (or more depending on numbers) other drivers  chosen by the organisers.

Please e-mail me your teams asap, to include all available crystals. More details later.

We ran the NORTHERN CARPET CHAMPIONSHIP for 12th scale on 10th September. See here for results.

Our own 'Boy Wonder', Greg Williams, has done it again. He went to the BRCA 'Junior & Veterans' meeting last week end and had a clean sweep in the 2WD under 13 championship, winning all his heats, getting FTQ and winning the first 2 legs of the Final, leaving leg 3 to the fight for 2nd. Tom Moore was 2nd and Jay Holmes 3rd.

By his own admission he had a bad 4WD competition, only coming 2nd with borrowed car(s) after his broke. Some pics can be seen here.

The Summer series sponsored by Cleveland Models has just finished. The results can be seen from the results page.

The next series is a short, sharp 'get back indoors' series. 5 events over 7 weeks  from 16th September, best 4 to count.  Dates are on the calendar page.

The series is MEMBER ONLY and is limited to 10th Off road buggy, 10th saloons to 19T and 12th scale.  Stadium Trucks and 18th off road trucks will be included if  numbers allow.

9th July 2006 / 16th August 2006

The committee have noticed that we are fragmenting classes too much. There has been a vast array of new cars coming onto the market recently. Every manufacturer seems  to have brought out something slightly different. Whilst all the new cars seem great fun, we are finding that we are running 4 or 5 heats with maybe only 2 or 3 drivers.

We do not wish to spoil anyone's enjoyment, but we are looking at ways of bringing the vitality of competition back to the club night.

As a start we are amalgamating all the saloon classes into one. The trutam class has been a great introductory class but has ceased to do what it was started for and the various stock classes  need sorting.

So from now there is just 1 saloon class running at TRCC indoors. It is for any BRCA legal chassis (ie no 'pan cars') running up to 19T brushed stock motor (brushless suitably limited can run on Club nights but cannot run in a series). Tyres are either rubber or foams as per BRCA rules.

There should be much better competition between drivers and still allow a suitable entry point for the new driver as there will be little to be gained by using 19T motors. 27T will be more than enough for most people used to the old Trutam class..

At the last Serpent challenge meeting held at the Halifax track on 2nd July, TRCC swept the board in the 200mm class. Adam Walker-Catchpole won, Pete Watt was 2nd and Peter Craig was 3rd. See photos at Sakapu  under Team
