Many TRCC members were at the final 12th scale national meeting in Chesterfield over the weekend of 18th / 19th March.
Recent returnee Mark Jewitt made his first A final since he came back to the sport after having his interest being rekindled at our National in November. He was very competitive all  during qualifying and the practise final, even giving Andy Moore something to think about, but seemed to loose pace in the real finals.
Adam Walker-Catchpole made the B-final with a last ditch effort on Sunday morning that must have tired him out! because things did not work out so well in the finals but I am sure he was just pleased to be there.
Chris Clarke and Peter Craig were 3rd and 4th in the C-final. Both won one of the 3 legs and were 4th in another, so tying on 5 points each. Chris got 3rd by having qualified ahead of Peter.
Pete Watt won all 3 legs of the D-final, having just slipped out of the C-final place he had held most of qualifying. Alan Curry was 7th in that final.
Scott Smart won 2 legs of the E-final  in his last serious meeting before he returned to his fun job on 2 wheels! Alex Curry was 7th and Glenn Atterton was 9th in that final also.
Ken Pond had an unfortunate time and was 10th in the F-final.
Emily Shields was 3rd in the G-final in one of her infrequent forays into 12th scale.

So 12th scale continues to increase its popularity amongst TRCC members and next season there could well be another 5 entries from the club. Well done to everyone who has represented TRCC so well during the 2005-6 season.

We have started a new series, again sponsored by Paul Cook at Cleveland Models. Result index here

The series is 8 meetings and will run until the middle of June with either 2 or 3 weeks between meetings.

If the turnout on 25th February is an indication of things to come, we shall have a VERY enjoyable and successful series. We may have to bring forward the start time if we continue to have 11 heats.

Approximate scale of track for 1/12th National 19T stock. If it looks twisty and narrow, that's because it is. Blame Chris Clarke and Alan Curry. At least the carpet has been flattened.
At today's final round of the IC foam Nationals, Pete Watt was 1 point in the lead of the 235 4WD Turbo championship. Despite being just off the pace in qualifying (5th) he put up a storming race in the A-final. Half way through  the race he was in a solid 2nd place with nearest rival Mark Gilliland in 4th, 1 lap down. However another spot of rain made the track very slippery and Pete had a couple of "offs" and Mark obviously had the better tyres. He managed to take second place at the end of the 20 minute final with Pete in 3rd.
This put Mark level with Pete on 594. The tie-break is who has the highest individual round(s). Mark has 2 maximum 101s to Pete's 1. So the 2004 British 4WD Turbo champion is Mark Gilliland. Congratulations to Mark and commiserations to Pete although that comes with a 'Very Well Done' from all at TRCC.
12th September 2004
Pete Watt TQ'd and won the 235 class at the British Grand Prix meeting at Halifax today. He was also well in contention in the semis in the 200mm class before an accident eliminated him. Congratulations to Pete from TRCC.

Ran on Saturday using new AMBrc system with personal transponders. I feel, once everyone had tried them, things went OK.

We have sold most of our first allocation. of PTs and I believe most of our members will want to have their own eventually. However some difficulties came to light during the evening. The drivers using Acoms receivers do not have a power out socket free. The battery socket has a diode in it to only allow voltage in. It means using a "Y" lead into one of the other channels and that adds to the complexity.

We have decided that the club should have one bank of handout rechargeable transponders for those drivers that need them. I am ordering these this week but it may be 2 weeks before we have them.

We have also decided that, rather than send our old system back for exchange, we shall keep it for routine use at the outdoor track. We can then have a lap-counting system available whenever the track is open, irrespective of activity at the Warehouse. Give us a few weeks to get that up and running.

2nd May 2004

The committee has decided that this year we will allow any 10th scale car to run on the off-road track. The grass has bedded down and there should be no risk from any 10th scale car, Electric or IC. This will be reviewed regularly.

6th April 2004

The order has now been placed and we should be using the new system this week. The costs are slightly less than we thought. The club is subsidising the first set of PTs, reducing the cost to £50.

6th April 2004

An easy payment scheme can be arranged. See me (Stewart) at the club. We already have 11 orders but will keep the subsidy going over the first few weeks of use.
The club committee has decided that now is the time to upgrade our lap counting equipment. The present AMB20 system has performed well over the 10 years or so that we have used it. However the transponders are failing and the latest software works best with the new AMBrc digital system.
We shall soon be able to utilise personal transponders (PTs) so we are asking any member (or non member) who wishes to purchase their own PT, to get in touch asap so we can order enough. The cost comes down depending on numbers. See right.
Personal transponders

initial order

£50 each

subsequent orders£60 each
The club will offer a 'buy-back' scheme so if you stop racing (heaven forbid) the club will buy back your PT for £45
Track for Saturday 28th February 2004. Round 4. Stockton Modeller series.

Track length 115mtrs.

I am please to announce that the Club has again obtained a donation from local company Huntsman towards our efforts for Muscular Dystrophy Research. We are very grateful for Huntsman's continued support for our annual efforts. This years total is now well over £500, up from last year.
ps we have sent a cheque for £700 to the Muscular Dystrophy Research Fund. Thanks to everyone who helped.

6th April 2004

After consultations with the Carlisle Club, it has been decided that the interclub competition series being held this summer will be an open class with a motor limit of 12T.

Although we know that many of our club race stocks indoors, it was felt that on our outdoor tracks an open class was nearer to National racing. Anyone not wanting to get a modified motor can always use a stock anyway.

The executive realise that we are not able to please everyone, and will review the series as it progresses. If there is a call from both clubs for a separate stock class we may well introduce another series at a later date.

14th February 2004

B-final Bob move over. We have B-final Adam

Congratulations to Adam Walker-Catchpole at Saturday's 12th Scale National. He made the B-final and, if not for unfortunate damage, would have finished much higher than the 8th he did.

Top F3 by 2 finals and surrounded by F1 and F2 drivers, he powered his way up the field from 10th in both legs. At one time, even though he had been lapped because of "Racing incidents", he managed to un-lap himself with ease and very skillful driving. Lets see what Sunday brings.

Our other National drivers had mixed a mixed day and would not like to have their exploits displayed here. Better luck tomorrow.

Another good days racing and B-final Adam does it again. Qualifying 7th in the B he showed some serious racing class in both legs of the final. In both he was pushing for the lead with F1's Chris Clarke, Nigel Hale, David Sharp and Alan Leighton, among others. A battery strap coming loose in 1st leg pushed him down to 7th but in 2nd leg there was an almighty battle for 2nd with Chris Clarke after Nigel Hale managed to gain a few seconds lead. Overall he just missed a podium finish in 4th. Top F3 by miles

Alan Curry and Liam Davies managed the C final after disasters on Saturday. Glenn Atterton and Ken Pond made the D and Alex Curry was in the E.

Track for round 1 of the Stockton Modellers Championship, 6th December 2003.
We are starting 2 new series for on road and off road indoors over the winter. We have sponsorship from both our local shops, Cleveland Models in Middlesbrough and Stockton Modeller (jn Stockton surprisingly). See the calendar pages for details. The first round of the Stockton Modeller series starts this Saturday 6th December and the series for Cleveland Models starts on Saturday 20th December.
Our AGM was held on 15th November 2003. The new committee list can be found on the committee page. It will be meeting for the first time on Saturday, but already our new Chairman has made his presence felt. I hope this indicates a start to another surge forward in the Club's development.
The off road track is almost complete. We are having the first meeting there as the NE Regional 4WD on 17th August. After that we will make a decision on how it is going to be used. If the grass holds up well then we will start by trying some IC cars, 10th only, to see how they affect the surface.
The grass turf is still young and may need some months to properly bed in. Please be patient. The general opinion is that1/10th should be OK but 1/8th are definitely out.
2nd August 2003
Ron Harker, our long time guiding hand, has not been well lately. He has been in hospital for an op. I will keep you informed. In the mean time I wish him well on your behalf. Get well soon Ron.

Progress with the legal department of the council is slow but we now have an agreement for what they call "Early access". This means that TRCC will get access to the site for work to begin before the lease is complete. This week should see us start work and I will keep you posted on assistance needed. In the mean time if anyone has won the lottery or has a few pounds to spare, please let me know.

We have had the first response from the Council about our application. The rent is less than I feared but more than I had hoped. We must have further talks with the finance department but things are progressing. We will be asking for a massive input of time from our members, and some financial input from those who intend to use the facilities.

I will not ask anything from the young Tamiya driver who just wants to use the warehouse facilities on a Saturday. There will be no increase in fees to fund something they will not use. The new track must be funded by those who are demanding it.

If anyone has any contacts for grants or donations, could they please get in touch with me or Adam Darcy.

Progress is being made on the club acquiring a site for both tarmac and off road tracks. We are having negotiations with the racing centre near the council offices where the Kart circuit is situated. We have produced plans and drawings thanks to David Robinson snr  and it now goes before the council for their blessing. We have no idea what the council are going to set as rent and whether we are going to be able to afford it. We are confident that given a chance we can make a very viable site to bring to the area one of the best venues in the country.

Debbie Doyle has retired from the committee and the position of Club Secretary because of pressure of work. It is well known in the club that Debbie has been going through difficult times over the past year or so. I would like to thank her for all the effort and time she has put into the position and wish her all the best for the future. Debbie will hopefully continue to be seen around the club when she can make it down.

Following requests from a number of the best drivers, we are trying a STOCK class, lying between the standard Tamiya class and the open SALOON class. At the moment any chassis with a 27single, 24 advance stock motor is allowed. The rules will be decided after a trial period to gauge the best way of getting the best racing.

With an input from the club's funds, we have been able to send a cheque for £1,100 to the Muscular Dystrophy Research Fund from the Mike Leonard Endurance race. This is a magnificent sum and my thanks again go out to all who helped. The club has received a letter from Mike's father Tony. Please read it with some pride.
