| The 2000 AGM was held at the Warehouse on 12th November starting at 1.30. There were
only 32 members present, about 1/2 of last years. This I think reflects the content within
the club compared to the almost hysterical unrest of last year. Retiring chairperson Simon Cook opened the meeting with his report and the announcement of his resignation. He apologised for being unable to give the attention he had wished to the club because of unforeseen events. Particularly the small person being held by his grandma. This time last year Tyler was not even imagined. Simon made particular thanks to Caroline and Debbie for their efforts in Racers Rest. Following Simon's review of the year there was little for Debbie to report so we went straight to the accounts. The accounts reflected the continuing success of the club racer. For another year the club's value increased significantly. In light of the increasing threat to the warehouse the meeting was asked to approve the change in financial feelings by the committee. We have agreed that the club should actively try to build up funds for the future expansions that must inevitably happen. Full accounts can be seen by any club member by asking me. Again it was pointed out the magnificent contribution that Racers Rest made to club funds The meeting then progressed to the elections of officers. For Chairperson we had 2 nominations, Malcolm Hebden and Colin Blades. After brief presentations by the candidates there was a written ballot which Colin won by a small majority. For Vice Chairman there were 2 nominations, Malcolm Hebden and Peter Winkworth. Malcolm won the ballot quite convincingly, much to Peter's relief. We had un-opposed nominations for Secretary (Debbie Doyle), Treasurer (Stewart Craig), Competition Secretary (Carole Cook) and Race Director ( Stewart Craig). Junior Committee Chairman was handed unanimously to the present chairperson Graeme Robinson. The ordinary committee had 8 of the retiring committee willing to continue and there were a further 5 nominees for the 12 positions. Instead of an election it was agreed that there should this year be 13 ordinary members of committee. So the new committee consists of. Glenn Atterton, Ian Craig, Adam Darcy, Paul Davies, Chris Downs, Ian Johnston, Richard Norris, David Pugh, Andrew Robinson, Chris Roe, Ray Taylor, Caroline Winkworth and Peter Winkworth. Look on the committee page for full details.
Also during the meeting was a presentation to Simon of a baby walker (I think that was for Tyler) and some flowers to Caroline for her efforts in Racers Rest. The meeting was closed just after 2.20 after which Racers Rest was opened for a buffet that was gratefully received. There followed a short race meeting with heats for all classes on and off road, including the club Traxxas 2wd cars. |
